KENNEDY Peter St John

Australian Army Born South Perth WA 1 April 1920 Died 28 August 2017

Service No. WX4631.  Joined the CMF (Militia) in 1938 and the AIF in May 1940 along with two older brothers and was allotted to 14 Battery, 2/7th Australian Field Regiment with training in Northam, from where he sailed overseas in May 1940. His service of about three years in the Middle East traversed from the Turkish border to Libya. Wounded at Alamein in July 1942 and returned to Australia in February 1943 to complete jungle training in Northern Queensland then to Tarakan, landing in 1945.  He returned with brothers, all intact, late in 45. His travels, after the war, started with the Australian hockey team in 1948, followed by crewing on Alan Bond’s Apollo USA and then in 1971, Europe with his family for six years having successfully completed businesses in Perth and abroad. Peter was a regular competitor in the veterans athletics events and State Championships, competing in 12 events in the State Championships during March 2013 and he is a frequent speaker in the public arena and in schools.
