At 17 joined the Royal Australian Navy serving as a wireless telegraphist in motor gun boats and destroyers with the US 7th Fleet in the Pacific and in the British Fleet in the occupation of Japan. In Active Reserve RAN for a further 8 years. 1949 in Antarctic with RAN Reserve. 32 years with Legacy. HMAS Warramuga Association President 4 years
