On 29 May 1942, Leading Aircraftman Leaman, a Guard, was a passenger to Flinders Island in an Australian National Airways DH89 Rapide Marika. The aircraft crashed into the sea near the island as a result of the failure of one engine, and Leading Aircraftman Leaman was killed. Also killed were the pilot Raymond G Weston and two other passengers.
