The original Highgate concept, which prevails today, is below:
·       The committee would completely handle all the administration and operations of the Sub-Branch.
·       Any Highgate member could attend the committee to discuss business - items for inclusion to the agenda are to be forwarded to the secretary at least 72  hours prior  to the meeting.
·       A monthly luncheon meeting, fellowship and a selected guest speaker.
Highgate RSL Sub- Branch was "founded in 1947 by a group of men who had served their country in time of war and who wanted in time of peace to experience the joy of comradeship and an opportunity to be of help to their former mates and dependants." These words, which were written by the late Highgate member Sir Charles Court AK KCMG OBE in the opening pages of the History of Highgate 1947-1997, are as true today as when first uttered.
The Highgate Sub- Branch has stood the test of time. While some other Sub-Branches and indeed service clubs throughout the State continue to struggle to find and retain members, Highgate is unique. Its members consist of ex servicemen and women from the business community as well as retired service men and women. The membership figures of 350 with over 100 members regularly attending the monthly luncheon meetings speak well for the original concept, which continues to provide service to its members and the League.

The main activities of Highgate are:
Provision of Sub Wardens who form an Honour Guard at the State War Memorial and other Memorials as arranged, during periods of commemoration, such as ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day, Coral Sea Week etc.
Highgate Marshals conduct commemorative activities in WA.
Highgate members maintain the Honour Avenues within Kings Park in conjunction with the Kings Park Board.

Poppy day; the attendance of Highgate members and others organised by Highgate, to rattle the tin on poppy day results in an annual collection of about $12,000 per year.
ANZAC Day gunfire breakfast; this event precedes the march through Perth each year and is well attended by Perth dignitaries and members, over 100 members and guests enjoy the breakfast.

Pension advocacy;
some Highgate members are trained advocates and assist members with their claims lodged with the Department of Veteran's Affairs at no cost.
Legacy; as with advocacy, some Highgate members are legatees and provide a free service.
Highgate members are delegates to the state RSL Annual Conference.
Highgate members are represented at state Executive RSL level. Highgate members are also well represented on defence committees and lobby government to ensure the continual improvement in pay, conditions of service and compensation for ADF members.

Monthly Newsletter; to keep members abreast of Sub-Branch activities.
Members of the committee regularly attend to welfare of members, (Hospital visits etc).
A luncheon is held at ANZAC House on the third Monday of each month (except January and April) with fellowship commencing at 11:30 hrs. Members and guests are provided an excellent opportunity to meet service comrades, develop new friendships and enjoy a convivial lunch at a low cost. Guest speakers present a variety of interesting and informative subjects at luncheons.
